Review of The Blues Brothers (1980) by Tomasan — 14 Jan 2010
The Blues Brothers has its up's and down's. For a late 70's early 80's musical, it is not half bad. But for a great Dan Aykroyd/ Belushi comedy, I sadly cannot compliment it that much. When placed next to comedies of the same genre and actors, It does not stand very tall next to the hilarious antics of Animal House, Caddyshack, Trading Places, Stripes, Ghostbusters, The Great Outdoors, Planes, Trains & Automobiles or Uncle Buck.
Sadly enough, there really isn't even all that much 'Blues' music to boot! Its mostly filled with motown and gospel, which I dont mind, but come on, for title's sake! Anyways, Aykroyd and Belushi do a pretty hilarious job together as two brothers on a mission from god.
I prefer Belushi's wild performance in Animal House over this one. I guess Blues Brothers is a certain style comedy that was designed for certain people. I liked it, but I only considered it mediocre.
It was funny to say the least, but in an old sense. Its fair to give it 3 stars for good directing, good acting, and an overall good plot.
