Review of The Blue Elephant (2014) by Mahmoud S — 29 Aug 2014
Dr. Yehia an alcoholic psychotherapist who's tragic past has kept him in a 5 years hiatus from work is called back to Al Abbasia's psychiatric hospital for criminally insane. There he finds his former colleague and best friend locked up there for the murder of his wife.
Yehia's comeback forces him to overcome his chaotic life only to find himself drawn to his best friend's illness that makes him question his own sanity. Khaled el Sawyy's excellent performance once again blows it away.
The cinematography was jaw-dropping as well as the score, pure Egyptian originality that is worth applaud. The highly acclaimed novel 'The Blue Elephant' adaption to the Egyptian theaters thrives not only to fulfill its readers expectations but also opens the long-closed door to the fantasia genre in the Egyptian cinema.
With a hole new level of film production and CGI, the film might open a chance to reach like Bollywood and Hollywood, the film industry Egypt has been longing to reach.
