Review of The Blue Angel (1930) by Millo T — 26 Feb 2010
Great movie about how the obsession of a man by a woman gets him into an autodestruction spiral. von Sternberg knows how to get the atmosphere, the sights, the little gestures. Sometimes it becomes wildly dramatic.
Marlene Dietrich is not as outstanding as in other wonderful roles she had later in America, but she's great, mainly in how she uses her eyes.
