Review of The Bloodletting (2004) by Trevor C — 05 Jul 2011
It's so funny when you see the transition from impressive opening titles with equally impressive opening music become a crappily filmed independent film that isn't worth a second of your time. On one side, this movie is extremely funny because it's so bad in nearly every way. The writing, the camera work, the acting. It's completely amateur. But if you sit back and enjoy it as something that you recognize from the start as being a piece of crap, then there's much more there to entertain.
Also, from what I recall, there isn't a single vampire in the film that looks like the one featured on the film's poster/DVD cover. There are no bats in the film at all, if I recall correctly, and as impressive as the opening titles were - they had absolutely nothing to do with the movie... unless of course there was some sort of unknown backstory that we never see in this film and it takes place in some ancient, well lit castle library.
It's so hilariously bad that it isn't a movie you watch on your own. You have to watch it at a party with a bunch of your friends so that you enjoy the film's crappiness with everyone. If you're a filmmaker, like I am, this will definitely make you feel better about your work. I, and pretty much all my other filmmaker friends, were making stuff like this when we were still in middle school. Don't let the festival awards fool you - this movie is a piece of crap. A (unintentionally) hilarious piece of crap.
