Review of The Blood of Heroes (1989) by Marc P — 04 Jan 2011
The only downside is its too short. I enjoyed how the film slowly spent time on the details of the characters lives and never tried to reveal too much about the rest of the world. Instead, the future is built through back drop and motivation of the characters. This is my favorite kind of Science Fiction because it doesn't beet the audience over the head with visuals or political rambling, but creates itself from a purely granted imagination. The story is decent and simple, the acting is plain but acceptable, and the movie is engrossing but not striking.
Edit: Just read interesting post on imdb. Seems this film suffered from usual bad producer and shit actors attitude from Hauer. Too bad. I can see a gleam, thought it was a novice attempt, not the death throws of art being murdered. I guess the low key simple plot is more a result of trying to save the film on the cutting floor when for other reasons all the good stuff is removed. Explain the dull-drum and lame buildup to events. Thought it was the point of the film, though awkward, now I know better. Seems like we lost a lot, if only it could be saved.
