Review of The Blob (1988) by Scott S — 16 Mar 2013
The Blob (1988) -- [6.5] -- It's rare, but here we have a remake that is better than the original. There are a few corny moments I could have done without (the motorcycle jump, for one), but Chuck Russell's "Blob" remake, co-written by Frank Darabont (The Walking Dead, The Shawshank Redemption) is entertaining and far more visceral than its predecessor.
I wish Michael Hoenig's cheezy synth score would have been replaced with something classier and that Oscar nominee Candy Clark (American Graffiti) had more to do, but I appreciated the government conspiracy angle added to the story, as well as the inventive special effects employed during the Blob's many "feeding" scenes.
Look for David Lynch alum Jack Nance (Eraserhead) in a cameo role.
