Review of The Blob (1958) by Brooke T — 14 May 2007
It may have only ever been intended to be a cheap teen-horror drive in flick, but somehow the makers of 'The Blob' tapped into something primal, and the end result is a genuinely disturbing sci-fi classic (even in spite of its obvious budgetary limitations).
It helps that Steve McQueen is heading up the cast, but even without him, 'The Blob' is a memorably unsettling idea for a movie monster - literally an unthinking, oozing, ever-growing mass of living appetite that engulfs and digests both red-blooded American teens and wholesome small-town doctors alike.
