Review of The Bling Ring (2013) by Jared S — 20 Sep 2013
Sofia Coppola has a unique style of directing that tends to give off a calm atmosphere. So It wasn't painful to watch at all, it was actually quite interesting, but The Bling Ring was a lousy film overall (and probably deserves less than 3 stars). Most of the run time involves one dimensional characters fulfilling their fantasies of robbing celebrities in and around Hollywood.
There's no character development whatsoever, no plot development, not even much of a coherent story and the acting is so incredibly unconvincing and forced (haven't seen much of Emma Watson - but yes, her included). I think Sofia Coppola is a fantastic director, but her writing is confusing to me (not to say it's remotely convoluted but just questionable) and I think her greatest effort yet, Virgin Suicides, proves this.
