Review of The Blind Side (2009) by Seth S — 14 Jul 2012
It wasn't quite as good as it could have been. It could have followed the true story a bit more, but the movie is great anyway. It has all the parts of an underdog sports story, but it is just better then average.
The story is a true one of Michael Oher. He is a big talented black kid, who was never given any opportunity in school, or sports. Through a strange turn of events, he is taken in by a rich white family, and eventually adopted into the family. They give him the chance he needs to succeed, and from there, Mike makes all the way to the NFL.
Sandra Bullock plays Michael's adopted mom. Leigh Anne Tuohy. She won an Oscar for the part, so needless to say, she is amazing. There is a lot of emotion in the performance. Quinton Aaron plays Michael. I'm sure his build played a big part in him getting the role, but he is also a very good actor. Tim McGraw, Lilly Collins, and Kathy Bates round out the cast.
Overall, this movie is great. A real fan favorite that improves upon a well worn formula.
"You threaten my son. You threaten me." 8/10.
