Review of The Blind Side (2009) by Peter N — 02 Sep 2012
The Blind Side's biggest strength is in the actors' performances, especially that of Sandra Bullock. The development and humanity explored in the characters make this a much better film than most generic sports dramas.
I have never been a fan of the "inspirational" true football stories such as Remember the Titans, but The Blind Side doesn't focus on the all-important championship game or winning season.
Instead, it stresses the fact that winning in life is much more important than any sporting competition. Of course, sports can play a big role in achieving one's dreams, as seen in the story of Michael Oher.
But his dedication to school, friends, and his new family make the character (and plot) much more multi-dimensional.
