Review of The Blind Side (2009) by Nick P — 10 Nov 2013
Its not a terrible film nor is it even bad. This is for sure not an excellent film, but worth watching.
The Blind Side follows the true story of Michael Or. He is a large, tall teenager with a big heart and in need for an education. Along the way, he comes across the Tuohy family and meets head of the house, Leigh (played by Sandra Bullock), a sharp-tongued southern mother who is the wife of a successful husband, Sean (played by Tim McGraw). One night after a game, they find him walking alone in the rain and she immediately takes him in. It turns out(wait for it) that he is homeless and has been sleeping inside the school. She tries to get him recieving better grades but without any sort of teaching from anyone, he has a real struggle. But she finds out that he has a real talent in football as a blind side and goes through a wind of trouble trying to get him involved and get a scholarship for Ole Miss.
Now, this story is definitely not original and is very sentimental. But it is not a failure. The main focus is Americas Sweetheart, Bullock. She delivered a solid performance as well as the young man who played Ohr. This might be labled as "oscar bait" and while Bullock was receiving most of the attention, the film itself garnered a surprise nomination for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Personally, I wasnt too emotional with the movie and if you are in the mood for having a sappy, enjoyable time, The Blind Side is for you.
