Review of The Blackening (2023) by Wmurphy011 — 16 Jun 2023
The truth:
This is yet another fake racial premise based absolutely no truth. The percentage of horror movies where a black characters die first is less than 2%. Yes, there are some horror movies where it actually does happen but there are many (and I mean MANY) times more horror films where white characters die first. There's actually a large number of horror movies where the black characters never die. Like 1999's House on Haunted Hill, 1991's The People Under the Stairs, and 2001's 13 Ghosts. In reality, there are more than 40 horror movies where the black character(s) make it to the end and never die.
Regarding that 2% statistic; if we only include horror movies with black characters in the main cast, the number of horror films where a black character dies only goes up to 10%. Nearly 75% of horror movies that contain both black and white characters have a white character dying first. This mean's there's actually a disproportionate amount of white people dying first in mixed race horror movies. (The other 15% being made up of other races.).
The truth is that in the overwhelming majority of horror films the first character to die is simply not a back character. Even when you only include horror movies with black characters in them, it's still almost always a white character dying first. (Just look it up for yourself.).
This is a very blatant fallacy being peddled by people who have a compulsion to always be playing the victim card. Not just in real life but in entertainment media, as well.
