Review of The Black Stallion (1979) by Machelle A — 30 Dec 2007
Because this was one of my favorite movies as a kid, I was reluctant to watch it again, afraid it would have lost its luster. No problems there--I cried my eyes out again, in the same spot, where Alec and Black are in the race, but it flashes back to their rides on the beach.
I had no idea that Mickey Rooney was nominated for an Oscar for this role, but I was thinking, "wow, this is fairly nuanced for Mickey Rooney." Kelly Reno is a wonder, for he actually says very little but takes us on this whole magical journey.
Wonderful wonderful, still wonderful nearly 30 (can it be?) later.
