Review of The Black Hole (1979) by George P — 08 Jan 2012
Black Hole can not be compared to Star Wars or Star Trek, yes they all take place in space and released around the same time, and a lot of people use the robots to compare the films.
Black Holes story is more a mix of Star Gate and Logans Run, if you want to compare. Investigating a black hole like the star gate portal, with murder as a hidden plot, maybe not for age like Logans Run, but to follow orders.
Live action Disney movie robots were crude in the beginning, something they were not known for then. And the film as a whole is definitely dark for a Disney production. The some times annoying Vincent, and the murdering Maxamillion.
Reading another review pointed at a religious tone at the end, with a hell and heaven within the black hole.
In the end, with all the science theories in our world on black holes, this film definitely conjures up the inner child and make you think about what you believe is held within a black hole.
