Review of The Black Cauldron (1985) by Tyrone P — 24 May 2008
In my opinion Walt Disney Pictures' 25th animated classic, 'The Black Cauldron' is undoubtedly their best! 1985's 'The Black Cauldron' is a brilliant swords-and-sorcery adventure based on the Tolkien-like series, 'The Chronicles of Prydain' by Lloyd Alexander.
Young Taran, an assistant pig-keeper to the clairvoyant Hen Wen dreams of a future as an invincible warrior and is now on a quest to stop the evil Horned King from getting his hands on the mysterious Black Cauldron.
The Horned King plans to unleash the power of the Black Cauldron and raise an Army of the Dead to take over the world. Taran is joined in his fight-to-save-the-world by a furry little creature named Gurgi, the enchanting Princess Eilonwy and the minstrel Fflewddur Fflam.
Together they encounter winged dragons, the Horned King's monstrous henchmen, three batty witches and more! 'The Black Cauldron' is very well directed by Ted 'The Fox And The Hound' Berman and Richard 'The King And I' Rich and features a wonderful voice cast, ground-breaking animation and a memorable score by Elmer Bernstein.
