Review of The Black Cauldron (1985) by Daniela M — 14 Feb 2009
Although it has most of the characters and main plot-points from its source material, The Chronicles of Prydain, the heavy-handed changes made the narrative less impactful. A prime example is the cop-out of an ending.
John Hurt is excellent as the voice of the Horned King, and the animation style is dated but still works. Yet although I loved it as a kid, it didn't stick with me like The Secret of Nimh and The Sword in the Stone, which stayed truer to their prose.
