Review of The Black Cauldron (1985) by Dave L — 28 Jul 2011
This is an animated film with a decent enough premise but one that is not utilised to its full potential. The fairly original idea to have a darker, more sinister family film (in 1985) is a really good one and the black cauldron legend itself is very creative and intriguing.
The problem lies with the good characters who are too bland and the film is too short to flesh them out into anything interesting. The only reason this film is above average is because of John Hurt's excellent dark scenes and the fact they weren't afraid to scare children.
