Review of The Black Cauldron (1985) by Maria S — 11 Nov 2012
This film reaches incredibly high, but ultimately falls far short. It's filled with interesting ideas, but they are all rushed and glossed over. None of the characters are fleshed out and the plot advances at a lightening pace, leaving the distinct impression that given twice the runtime this would have been a much better film.
The animation appears sloppy and below the standards of other Disney films at the time. Worth watching mostly only as a historical artifact. All but the most serious Disney or animation fans can safely pass it by without missing out on much.
