Review of The Black Cauldron (1985) by Scott A — 15 Jun 2013
I do like watching these old Disney films as I so prefer this type of animation to today's computer generated stuff. That said, this movie was only okay. It really isn't a children's film at all. It's very dark and a lot of adult themes like death and even a scene where one character is turned into a frog and gets stuck in a woman's cleavage.
There is no singing in this thing and not a one great character. The bad guy kind of resembles Skeletor from He-Man, and he would've been great had they expanded his screen time some and not given him that utterly awful ending.
Out of the heroes the Princess is okay, while the old man and the furry bear thing come off as annoying. This bear thing was like an animated Jar-Jar decades before he annoyed all us Star Wars fans. The lead comes off as a whiner as well.
The story was blah as well.
Just a very Un-Disney Disney film.
