Review of The Black Cauldron (1985) by Brian S — 04 Jun 2009
An amazingly dark fantasy adventure from the forgotten vault at Disney. classic-style animation and some really incredible art direction. unfortunately the two main characters were quite dull, but the supporting characters were pretty interesting and entertaining (especially Gurgi, instigator of what I'm quite sure is Disney's first on-the-mouth kiss in a feature film).
this is definitely geared towards a more mature audience of kids--younger kids, aside from having the crap scared out of them, might not appreciate the fantasy element. more importantly, though, the theme of death in this movie is poorly handled for the emotionally ill-equipped.
