Review of The Black Cauldron (1985) by Brandon M — 05 Dec 2009
THE GOOD.
- The Horned King: One of the most fantastic looking Disney villains.
THE BAD.
- The Horned King does zip besides walking verrrry slowly and getting his ass handed to him by the scrawny pre-teen hero.
- The scrawny pre-teen hero and his crew are the most annoying cast of characters I've seen since Full House.
- Gurgi: Never has a sidekick been this annoying. I think the only merchandise Disney ever made of this guy was a dartboard.
- The songs make nails on a chalkboard sound like Jesus Christ Superstar.
- The chemistry between the hero and the princess -- it's paper thin, consisting of bickering for a minute followed by an abrupt "You're my friend!".
THE INTERESTING.
Many elements in the movie also appeared in The Legend of Zelda a few years later. Was this film the inspiration for that video game? (Thankfully, Zelda didn't borrow ALL the ideas!).
