Review of The Black Belly of the Tarantula (1971) by David S — 21 Nov 2007
A solid giallo that is notable for having an actually well-developed and complex leading character (a trait that is rare amongst gialli). The narrative, sadly, lacks any complexity as the end revelation is both anti-climatic and thoroughly generic, causing viewers to cry out "That's it?!" Still, the atmosphere is strong and the supporting characters are surprisingly given some dimension (again, more than most gialli).
A solid recommendation for giallo fans and a slight recommendation for mystery-thriller aficionados, but others shouldn't really go out of their way to see this.
