Review of The Black Balloon (2008) by Monster . — 22 Mar 2009
Australian films are not my type, but this is a classic not to mention the film of the year for Aussies. Everything about this film is natural except the music, the script and story and most importantly the cast.
Each character is so greatly picked. Rhys Wakefield, Gemma Ward and how can I forget Luke Ford have such big futures coming for them because of this film. What a classic. The reason I love this film is because I have a sister who is autistic and to see the same kind of thing shown here by Luke Ford who is magnificent and funny in this film.
I identified so much with the story and the character Thomas played by Wakefield who gave it his incredible best. The more I see this film the more I take what I see with me, I love the relationship between Rhys and Gemma, also Toni Collette and Erik Thompson are also great in this film.
There are scenes where I laughed hysterically and there are scenes where I cried and felt so sad. This is a touching and absolutely powerful film. So big and life changing.
