Review of The Bishop's Wife (1947) by Sarah G — 21 Jul 2008
Cary Grant is wonderful as "Dudley," the angel sent from above to help out a bishop and his wife. Once again, Grant is the only reason I saw this film. It was perfect for him: he's charming, kind, and quite the gentleman.
Loretta Young was also good as the bishop's wife, beautiful and troubled as to what to do to help her husband. Whoever was the one to play the bishop kinda freaked me out in how severe he looked. I can't believe I'm saying this, as this is rarely the case, however, in many ways, I prefer the remake that was done with Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston.
Most of the time, the originals are better. Essentially, this original is great in that it contains Cary Grant.
