Review of The Birth of a Nation (2016) by Yassin B — 07 Oct 2016
I give the movie 3 stars just because it was about Nat Turner. Other than that, it was much ado about nothing. The movie was hyped to the point of being a let down. You could feel the liberties the director took with historical accounts of Nat Turner.
The drama felt forced. The movie seemed to exploit the atrocities of slavery for emotional support. Many people react and judge based on their emotions, so I can see why many may approve. For me it was a disappointment.
