Review of The Birth of a Nation (2016) by John K — 08 Oct 2016
The film is effective in showing a version of PTSD, where a man subjected to so much suffering of his fellow-man that he loses his mind to violence, anger, and vengeance. However, portraying a man who uses violence as an answer as a pure and just hero feels problematic, as a more sensible, even-keeled treatment to the material may have made of a more interesting, dynamic film.
