Review of The Birth of a Nation (2016) by Nathaniel B — 06 Nov 2016
BIRTH OF A NATION the film about Nat Turner who led the 1831 Slave Rebellion was the most Powerful Emotional Epic movie I have ever seen in years! This movie will pierce through your Soul, make you angry yet captivate your heart all at the same time! Birth of a Nation is a Phenomenal Masterpiece! But regardless of how you may feel about the director of this movie, Birth of a Nation is still an important piece of Black American History that needed to be seen as it is relevant to the Black Lives Matter movement of today.
What our ancestors went through during slavery was unforgettable. Sadly 185 years later Black people are still being treated as Second Class Citizens in America, especially by police! But in 1831 Nat Turner flipped the script on the slave Masters.
He became fed up with the horrors of slavery and had the Bold Strength and Courage to rise up with a full heart to lead a army of Black men to battle their oppressors with all their might so they would no longer be in bondage.
Was Nat Turner violent methods wrong? Maybe, but in 1831 it was a horrible desperate time to be black in America. And Nat Turner had reached his boiling point. Nat Turner's slave rebellion may have only lasted 48 hours, however in those last few days spent fighting their enemies with their lives, they were Free!
