Birth of a Nation wasn't that good.
Sorry folks.
I mean, the film isn't bad or anything like that, but it's not standing ovation good.
Like seriously, this got a standing ovation at Sundance? Is it because of that stupid #Oscarsowhite thing. The hype for this was just insane and kind of a waste. I'm glad the Oscar buzz for this died out.
The film feels like a rehash of better slave movies. It's doesn't do anything different or unique to the story. It's bland in terms of film making and storytelling. There was no soul or heart to it. Half of it felt made up. The performances were good and couple of scenes that was pretty brutal, but that's really it.
