The Birth of a Nation is the ambitious feature film debut from Nate Parker as a director.......and you can tell that it was his first time alright. The peformances and cinematography are both fantastic.
Nate Parker's peformance as the main character is Oscar worthy. However, this movie has major pacing problems. Some plot points are way too long and others are way too short. Parker definitely has the potential to become a great director and this is just a stepping stone to get there.
I don't necessarily recommend this movie but it does deserve a watch.
