Review of The Birth of a Nation (2016) by Alquena R — 12 Oct 2016
Birth of A Nation is an exceptional, riveting, timeless and classic masterpiece. I read a review that said the movie, "hits the gut but not the mind." IMHO it expands the mind. It's so much more than an insurrection it's the story of a man and a people and that's it.
It's not about hating others or applauding murder but a reminder to its people and those who are champions for change that we have much work to do. The directing, the acting, the movement of the story has the bases of a good Sunday sermon.
It grips you and it takes you there. Wherever "there"'is for the viewer that's where it takes them. It's a critically important film and I'm so happy Nate Parker had the vision and courage to bring it to life.
