Review of The Birth of a Nation (2016) by Tracy M — 14 Oct 2016
Good movie. Good story. For some as expected, the movie won't be very good-history can sometimes be an ugly mirror. For others, it should be a motivation to appreciate the opportunities available. The movie is at times a little slow but keeps your attention.
The acting was great. Some scenes are pretty graphic, which helps the viewer to understand why certain actions were taken, justified or not I've read some of the critic's and Historian's reviews.
Some of the horrible acts perpetrated by slave owners and the like may not have happened exactly on the day or time the story chronicled, we'll never really know, but the inhuman treatment of slaves as depicted in the film were common practices throughout slavery.
Again, good movie.. definitely not recommended for small children.
