Review of The Birth of a Nation (2016) by Carl W — 25 Oct 2016
I enjoyed this film, good if not great, and a punch in the gut of an experience.
Nate Parker who also directed is really good as Nat Turner but a little heavy handed as a director.
I would have enjoyed the film more if it was not so stylized, it felt very Hollywood and the material deserved a grittier sheen to match the stain in our history that is slavery.
I am not ashamed to say that I had to sit in the theatre until well after the credits rolled to compose myself, it is that kind of film.
