We just finished the screening for, "Birth of a Nation," one of the most difficult to watch, brutal, but well acted movies I have seen in years. Set in the South during the time of slavery in the 1800's prior to the Civil war, the movie is about the life of a slave, Nat Turner, played brilliantly by Nate Parker, who directed and also wrote the movie based upon Turner and real events. The movie is gut wrenching to say the least, and difficult to watch as it depicts the horrific brutality endured, and Turner's unwillingness to stand the oppression and horrific acts predicated any further. Only one or two people in the packed theater left their seats during the entire two hour movie. Incredible acting and cinematography, "Birth of a Nation" is an unflinching lesson of this countries' past, and measure of just how far civil rights, and social consciousness have moved forward since that time. In theaters 10/7/17. Rated R.

Mark and Mickey.
