Review of The Birth of a Nation (1915) by Alice S — 31 Jan 2010
Although this film is terribly racist, it has to be viewed in context of its time. The cinematography is brilliant for its time and is a great study on social mores during a time where membership in The Klan was at its social peak.
As a historian and as an African American, I have to rate this film high for its importance in film making and it as a reminder to where we were as a nation not even 100 years ago.
