Review of The Birth of a Nation (1915) by Alex S — 05 Sep 2014
An amazing and provocative film! The Birth of a Nation showcases a propagandist view on how America turned out during the Reconstruction Period of American history. It is a recreation upon the stories which DW Griffith's father, a Southern civil war veteran, told him as a child.
Griffith used these ideas to create the largest production at that time. The Birth of a Nation was highly influential, as it was one of the reasons for the revitalization of the Ku Klux Klan. It was also a box office success, grossing in over $11 million in 1915.
