Review of The Big Year (2011) by Matt T — 24 Oct 2011
The Big Year has a cast that is overflowing with comedic acumen. Unfortunately, this is NOT a comedy. There were a few times during its 100 unfunny minutes that I smiled a bit, but not due to funny moments, but rather at the movie's tender moments.
The best of which was the one shared by Jack Black and his grumpy Dad, Brian Dennehy, while searching for a rare owl in snowy woods. After 36 years Brian finally understands his son and the looked to be animatronic owl stares on knowingly.
I wasn't intending to see this movie (the Thing didn't fit my time window) but was persuaded by the box office attendant how identified the cast and said it was a Comedy! I am fairly certain The Thing had a monster in it.
I liked all the actors and there was a lot of pretty scenery, but surprisingly not so many great bird shots. I don't mean shot birds, but video of birds. It's an OK movie, but not a funny one.
