Review of The Big Year (2011) by Befani G — 31 Jan 2012

As a birdwatcher myself, I can justify my interest in this film. However the only laughs came from the fact I know people who behave this way about rarities and their bird list. There were no funny jokes per se.

I didn't really care about the characters so when they were having a hard time, it wasn't moving. They did give plenty of interesting facts about birds, which made birdwatching seem cool, rather than boring.

I think the best thing about it was the way they captured the various kinds of birders very well - The ones who enjoy the birds (Me), the ones who have seen a lot throughout their lives, can identify everything but have bad luck (George!) and the ones who revolve their lives around being the top lister.
