Review of The Big White (2005) by Antti W — 22 Aug 2009
This is the kind of movie where the setting almost becomes a character in itself. It reminded me of Fargo, which I guess is inevitable with a dark comedy that takes place in the snow. Unfortunately Fargo did the same thing much better, but The Big White still has some merit.
My favorite character is Holly Hunter's Tourette's Syndrome wife, whose lines are pretty much all gold. I like what the movie tried to do, but it ultimately tries a bit too much. There are few too many twists and turns to my liking, and a touch simpler script would have worked nicely.
Still, there are many juicy bits in the film and it's one of those movies that you can easily watch once. But only if you are a little twisted.
