Review of The Big Wedding (2013) by Sherry B — 05 May 2013
I didn't know what to expect from this movie I wasn't really that excited for it, it looked like it had a fair amount of talent but still I didn't shout out at me. Plus I have never really cared for wedding romcoms except for Wedding Crashers and American Wedding but otherwise there all the same. But this stood out a little after seeing it its very very light hearted at pint which is nice but at the same time has a well deserved R rating. It has some pretty raunchy moments and a tasteful scene of nudity. This story is pretty big it has a ton of plot points that sort of go to rest at the films sweet end. This does primarely focus on the family of the groom then the actual bride and groom (played by the adorable Amanda Seyfried and Ben Barnes).
As far as acting goes in this movie Susan Sarandon is my favorite, she is very very funny as always. Diane Newton and Robert Deniro do okay but still believable as a divorced couple. Katherine Heigel also shines as the bitter sister that has some unresolved problems she keeps a secret. Topher Grace had to be the down point in the movie his character is complicated that triggers an unneeded side story. Robin Williams who isn't in the movie a whole is also as always hilarious as the picky priest.
This is far from a perfect movie but also far from a bad movie. Its funny at times raunchy but always kept me laughing. Its not a stupid wedding romcom but a feel good wedding movie.
SCORE: 8.4 out of 10.
Lionsgate Films, Rated R, 89 min.
