Review of The Big Wedding (2013) by Gregory K — 14 Oct 2013
Ninety minutes of bickering. So as to not rub foreign in-laws the wrong way, two divorced parents (Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton) must feign to be married to not offend uptight religious ideals while everybody's in town for a wedding.
This was almost exactly the movie that I was dreading this would be; when every single problem presented would potentially solved by people sitting down and having a simple conversation, then you have a movie that is playing on my pet peeves, and you're going to get on my nerves.
It's a lame excuse to have wacky high jinks, and the ruse itself feels so completely and utterly pointless, because people are not thinking logically. As far as the material itself, it opens with an oral sex joke, and also features a handjob joke and vomit joke for good measure (yes, it's that kind of movie).
Lots of awkward reaction shots from the cast and extras, and you can pretty much map out how everything is going to play out from the first 20 minutes. All the shenanigans get old as quickly as you would imagine they would, and if your movie features Katherine Heigl, chances are I don't want to see it.
