Review of The Big Wedding (2013) by Matt W — 08 Jan 2014
Not as bad as I thought, but still not good.
Robert De Niro. Susan Sarandon. Diane Keaton. Robin Williams. Amanda Seyfried. How did they get it wrong?
Wait... what? Katherin Heigl and Topher Grace?
Oh... That's why.
To be fair, I'm not as much a Heigl basher as others. She didn't bother me here, as the whole film is so fluffy that any performance wouldn't bother you.
Except for De Niro who did feel like he was phoning it in a little bit here, he must have been given a pretty good pay check to be in this, as I can't understand why else he would want to be a a part of this.
I did properly laugh twice here, and they were funny lines I think delivered by the same person, but the main reason why the comedy mostly doesn't work is because it concentrates on so many visual gags that just feel old, and a little awkward. The comedic timing is just wrong.
It is just a bit over the place, with too much raunchy comedy included just for the sake of it. Some scenes feel forced, but at the heart of it, it's harmless and completely forgettable.
Cliché served with a side order of conventional.
