Review of The Big Wedding (2013) by John S — 23 Dec 2014
Alejandro, the adopted son of divorced couple Don and Ellie, is getting married to Missy, On the eve of the wedding he finds out that his ultra-conservative Colombian birth mother Madonna is coming to the wedding and he decides to ask his adopted parents to simulate that they are still married to the disappointment of Don's long standing girlfriend, Bebe and his two adopted siblings Jared and Lyla. Relatives start to arrive and the dirty laundry slowly starts to creep out sparing no one.
This is a comedy with an amazing cast that is wasted in a really silly script. I can see there is a good intention there someplace but the whole plot is unbelievable from beginning to end, and at some places you cannot stop yourself from cringing at the very poor development of an average story. There are a few good jokes and isn't boring, just so unlikely. This movie doesn't' strike the right notes and you end up wondering how all these super-popular Hollywood stars signed up for this, didn't they read the script? Were they short of money?
