Review of The Big Store (1941) by Bobby D — 12 Aug 2009
My favorite Marx Brothers film because it has the best of all they've ever done. The best film musical performance from them when Chico and Harpo play the piano, mixing skill and humor making it entertainment every time I watch it. Groucho's one liners with the amazing and never tiring Dumont (no matter how many fioms she was in with them and always playing the same character). And the amazing chase scene throughout the store through the end.
It could have used with out the end musical number with Martin, but at least they keep the secondary story of him and Grey out of the movie as much as possible without cutting it out all together.
It's my favorite and in my opinion one of their best, worth watching for their fans and fans of the old school comedies.
"Tell me, Wolfie dear, will we have a beautiful home?".
"Of course. You're not planning on moving, are you?".
"No, but, uh, I'm afraid after we're married awhile, a beautiful young girl will come along, and, uh, you'll forget all about me.".
"Don't be silly. I'll write you twice a week.".
