You're better off not trying to follow the murder plot too closely, although that comes into focus a bit once you've seen 'The Big Sleep' a few times. Just sit back and enjoy Bogie's laid-back performance as Marlowe, all the whip-smart banter, and Lauren Bacall at her most smoldering in this prototypical film noir.
