Review of The Big Sleep (1946) by Dave C — 29 Feb 2008
Humphrey Bogart kicking butt and getting the crap beat out of him? Check. Men in suits and hats? Check. Dark? Check. Old-timey promiscuity? Attractinve women who - if alive today - are now old enough to be my great-grandmother? Check and check. Plot so complicated that you need dual doctorates in film studies and literary science to fully understand it? Big time check.
Its a classic film noir, and it hearkens back to a time when men were men and women were trouble and a hard-boiled fast-talking private detective led an exotic life filled with seedy characters.
