Review of The Big Sleep (1946) by Jenny Z — 16 Jul 2008
Ahh. If only I understood what was going on in this movie at all... the words "convoluted plot" come to mind; but that is an understatment. Call me dense but I had more than a little diifficulty following the plot and perhaps would gain a better understanding on another viewing.
For that reason, I found myself not very invested in the characters much at all. I will say though that the film's noir roots and headliners, bogie and bacall, certainly made me want to finish this film, if at all.
The screenplay, which boasts William Faulkner among others, is certainly sharp and witty.
