Although Bogart's performance is as breathtaking as ever and the wartime atmosphere is refreshing, the convoluted plot hinders the movie at every turn. A battalion of characters with a multitude of motivations acts in tantrum with a confusing plot-line to create a story that is almost impossible to follow with full comprehension.
