Review of The Big Sleep (1946) by Mirko B — 23 Feb 2010
Bogart!Bacall! Need I say more? Bacall is close to perfect as the larger-then-life femme fatale who hires Bogart to solve her little problem. The film shows perfectly why Bogart is such a legend. It's so refreshing to see a genuine film noir from a time when the smokers weren't only the bad guys and when it smoking was an important part of an actress' allure.
In comparison to today's Hollywood productions which have been cleared of any "inappropriate" suggestions, every line from Bogart's and Bacall's mouth sounds monumentally meaningful, charismatic.
You can really tell that Faulkner wrote the screenplay.
