Review of The Big Sleep (1946) by Marc-André D — 03 Mar 2010
If you like the original novel you probably won't like the movie too much, the original plot was butchered and turned from an hard boiled detective novel to a love story between a detective and one his client.
The relationship between Marlowe and Vivian isn't at all necessary killing Eddie Mars doesn't add anything to the story and overall all the minor changes made end up being more of an annoyance than an advantage.
It's still an enjoyable movie, but not a must see....
