Review of The Big Sleep (1946) by Senor C — 26 Dec 2011
Of the half a dozen noirs that I have watched over the past 2 & a half weeks or so The Big Sleep is by fair the best of a genre that I have only recently begun to tap into. This may be my favorite Humphrey Bogart performance outside of Key Largo & made me smoke a half a pack of cigarettes when watching it.
The dialogue is crisp & sharp. I loved when Bogey told Lauren Becall that he doesn't slap so well this late @ night. Bogart is always great when he's delivering one off the cuff. Engrossingly complex that you barely feel its close to 2 hour running time that is well worth the investment that I was even saddened a bit to see come to an end.
It was a great way to spend xmas morning. I have a shit pile of noirs to get through but I have a feeling that this is going to be one of the best.
